Little Rock

Had a rare treat when we got to hang out with some people after the show in Little Rock. Scotty shocked me and Jordan by being really good at darts. Jordan fought hard and long to maintain his winner status, but Scotty won out in the end. People in Little Rock really like tattoos.

Bill Cosby in Asheville

The nice thing about our Asheville-Knoxville-Nashville stretch is the short drives. Today we made the afternoon show of Bill Cosby at the Asheville Civic Center. The best part was how excited Randy was. Right beforehand we had gone to Rosetta's where I had had the cayenne pepper kombucha to try to clear out my sickness. Loving being back in a country with kombucha.

Tallahassee

There's a joke about "porky-pigging" it going around, and here I am today trying out the look with a micro minidress Sam gave me back in Austin. We played FSU in Tallahassee today. Greg and Cari from RISD came to see me and I put them to work shooting live video. Playing at the university gave me weird deja vu as it was just like when bands would come to the readio station i worked at in college, KVRX. This time I was on the other side but we had those same probelms: hard to find which college building we wanted, the kids couldnt buy us alcohol with the school money, no smoking. Went to a college bro house later that night and met some wicked graffiti.

Gainsville, City of Dreams

The nice thing about life that as it goes on, you get to meet more and more of your idols. Bill Daniel happened to be in Gainesville the night that we did our show there, also staying with Roger Beebe. I was so excited to get to Gainesville and it lived up to my expectations. Roger's magic is unreal. I would move to a sleepy college town right now if I knew that in ten years I would be the cultural Mayor of the town. It was fun to walk around the town and see all the things that he started: the video store, the film festival, the film department. Also had a couple of hours with Bill reminiscing about the Austin punk scene that he experienced and I only read about.

The coolest guy also has the coolest business card.

Sumi Ink Club

Before I left Los Angeles, I had dinner with Rob, Luke, and Sarah. Sarah and Luke are the force behind Lucky Dragons and Sumi Ink Club and for a couple of years have been creating shirts for Blood is the New Black. We played Houston last night and then stayed at my aunt's house. Ast time I was there Dean slept in my grandfather's old room, next to my senior picture. The next day I wore my new shirt from Sarah and Luke and decided to take a picture of myself in my aunt's bathroom.

Facebooked about?

Back on the Road

Today kicks off another tour with No Age. Found this picture on Dean's iPad of the Europe tour. I looked so long in the practice space for this pillow because I wanted to take it with us, sadly it was nowhere to be found. :(

Los Angeles, 3 More days til Tour

Last night I spent the night with Alison O'Daniel who used to live with me in Austin 4.5 years ago. She showed me her thesis film Night Sky made while at University of California Irvine. The film features hearing and non-hearing actors as well as some wicked audio effects and visuals. Alison also made the point than whenever you see women in sublime landscapes they are always in trouble, and her film has two women who are lost in the desert, but just deal with it. Since she said this, I have been furiously re-categorizing films I have seen into this category; Thelma and Louise and Picnic at Hanging Rock are the first two that come to mind.

Currently watching The Wrestler while my stepsister Nomi reads All the Devils Are Here next to me in preparation for her interview with the authors on Saturday. Tomorrow we are going to do yoga and get pedicures.

New Year 2011

New Year's Day also happens to be the birthday of Stephanie Chan my former bandmate and all around total genius. On New Year's Eve, her band Dunes played a wicked show with fellow No Age tourmates Abe Vigoda Her birthday went on all weekend in the company of Mark, Steph's sister Wendy, her fiancee Mark, and the Hall sisters at the house on Lexington.

Also today marked the first day of OWN, Oprah Winfrey's Network that my friends, Pastor and Genn, have been working on. After standing nearby Oprah, Steadman, Fergie, and other Oprah talent at the opening party, I drank two bloody mary's and took some candy for Steph's birthday party.
